- With 28 miles of shoreline along its reservoir, the 3,800-acre Okatibbee Water Park is the site for many outdoor activities. Splashdown Country's adult and kiddie water slides are open May through Labor Day, with lifeguards on duty. The park features fully developed camping spurs, with 50 amp electrical service, for camping enthusiasts. Four vacation cabins are also available. In addition, the park offers a 25-room motel complete with cable T.V. Call (800) 748-9403 for reservations. For those more interested in nature, the park is visited each December by bald eagles.
Recreation - The reservoir at Okatibbee offers abundant bass fishing year round, as well as water skiing, boating and canoeing. In addition, the park offers opportunities for camping, picnicking, cabin stays, hiking and playing at the water slides. Climate - Mississippi lies mainly in the subtropics. The climate is mild with the coldest months experiencing low temperatures near 40 degrees F. Summer temperatures frequently reach 100 degrees F, with coastal breezes providing cooling relief. Humidity is highest in August and September reaching an average close to 90%. The highest rainfall comes during the spring months, but December and January are wet, too. Expect temperatures in the northeastern region to be somewhat cooler than the rest of the state. Location -
