General Information

Description - The beautiful hardwood forests of Holmes County State Park are home to an abundance of wildlife, and provide the scenic backdrop for a variety of outdoor activities. Built around two lakes covering 88 acres, the park offers such diverse excitement as fishing, roller skating, camping and cabin rentals. Holmes County State Park offers easy access to Interstate 55, which bisects Mississippi north and south. The convenient location and diverse outdoor recreational amenities make Holmes County State Park a favorite retreat.

Attractions - Holmes Country is the most centrally located of the states parks in Mississippi. The park's two lakes are home to numerous varieties of wildlife. The parks amenities include two fishing lakes, hiking trails, a nature trail, an amphitheater, a skating rink, and an archery range. Visitors can choose from the parks many campsites for there individual and group overnight accommodations.

Recreation - Recreational activities include fishing, boating, hiking, camping and ice skating.

Climate - Mississippi generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Freezing temperatures are possible in the winter. Thunderstorms and are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. Tropical storms occasionally strike the coast during the hurricane season.

Location - Holmes Country State Park is four miles south of Durant off I-55, exit 150.

Delta Region - The Delta Region covers the northwest and west-central portions of Mississippi, bordering the Mississippi River on its western edge. It includes cities such as Greenville, Tunica and Clarksdale.
Jackson Area - Outdoor life in the County is always a beautiful and educational experience. As one of Mississippi's 27 state parks, Jackson County's own Shepard State Park provides its visitors with picnic areas, bike and nature trails, and areas for tent camping. The Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge and the Pascagoula Wildlife Management Area are popular wildlife refuges that are open to hikers, bird watchers. Campers will also enjoy the beautiful Gulf Islands National Seashore Park in Ocean Springs.
